about

Written during a busking tour of Europe, ‘Elegy’ is a reflection on sudden loss and grief. The track was recorded in one take and has essence of Damien Rice, with vivid imagery and notes of hope. Exposed lyrics, dissonant harmonies and unfiltered vocals culminate in a true expression of vulnerability and strength.

Joy quotes: “‘Elegy’ just poured out of me - it was almost the only possible response to the intensity of grief. It felt like every emotion I experienced was being felt for the first time, and I think you can hear that woven into each element of the song.”

Joy Becker Manchester, UK

Manchester-made contemporary folk artist Joy Becker is giving voice to the vulnerability of being human. Her songs have been described as 'word paintings' and her honest writing and raw vocals compared to the likes of Joni Mitchell and Damien Rice.

Originally trained as a violinist, Joy’s classical roots bleed into her music and make her an artist with unique insight and depth.
